Welcome to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mercer County Website
For over 100 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters has worked to improve the general health, lives and futures of thousands of underserved children. Our mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of children by promoting their self-esteem, expanding their awareness of life's opportunities, and providing them with guidance and support through long-term, one-to-one mentoring with caring adult volunteers.

Little Moments... Big Magic...

In our own lives, each of us was touched by someone who introduced us to new worlds, and brought a little magic into our lives. As a Big Brother or Big Sister, you can do that too: celebrate the joy of everyday moments, and bring magic into a child's life -- moments where you get back as much as you give, and know you enrich a life just by being there. Big Brothers Big Sisters is about Little Moments, Big Magic. Thank you for visiting our web site!

our BIG story...

April 12, 2008 marks a very special day for Sherry Hawkins and Angela Rotundo. It will be the 25th year anniversary of their big little match.

Sherry was just 24 when hoping to fill a void in her life, so she signed up to be a volunteer “Big Sister”. Her first outing with her “Little Sister” Angela was simply a trip to the park. As they shared information and stories about their lives both Sherry and Angela remember feeling a strong connection. They continued visiting with each other doing all the “normal” big sister/little sister activities like going to the movies, bowling outings, shopping and going to the Jersey shore.

As Angela grew older, Sherry was there to support and encourage her through the difficult years of adolescence. Sherry’s devotion and commitment helped Angela raise her grades, graduate from Ewing High School and go on to college. Today, as both Angela and Sherry face life trials and tribulations as well as life’s happiness & joys, they do it together, supporting each other and being each others support system.

So, after 25 years of learning and growing together, if you ask Sherry what impact she thinks she had on her “Little Sister” Angela, her reply is “I get more out of it then she gets”. Together they agree they are no longer “Big Sister Little Sister” they are simply sisters!
