Get
ready to Dance! On October 7 from 6 p.m. to midnight,
The College of New Jersey's Golden Key International
Honor Society and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mercer
County will host Roscoe's Rock-A-Thon on the campus
of The College of New Jersey.
The
dance marathon will be hosted as a fundraiser to
raise awareness of the growing number of at-risk
youths, to recruit student mentors to partner with
those children and to raise funds through pledges.
Big
Brothers Big Sisters' mission is to make a positive
difference in the lives of children by promoting
their self-esteem, expanding their awareness of
life's opportunities, and providing them with guidance
and support through long-term, one-to-one mentoring
with caring adults.
The
Golden Key International Honours Scoiety, founded
in 1977, is an academic honor society that recognizes
scholastic achievement among college students from
all academic disciplines. The organization seeks
to foster philanthropic service in its members by
encouraging one to grow as individuals and make
a difference in their community.
Those
who are interested can sign up to be participants,
sponsors or general donors by registering at www.tcnj.kintera.org.
The cost for individuals to participate is $150
minimum in pledges. For dance teams it is $1,000
with a maximum of 8 to a team. Top prize is a seven-day
Caribbean cruise for two, including airfare, compliments
of Cruise Holidays of Mercer County, executive director
Susan Dunning said.
Donations
to the Rock-a-thon will support Big Brothers Big
Sisters' mentoring program, in which the cost per
match is approximately $1,000. This cost includes
recruiting, interviewing, background and reference
checks, training, active case management by trained
professionals, and special events for the Bigs and
Littles.
